My parents hired a cleaning lady that lasted for a couple of weeks when I was about 8 or 9.

Other than the stateroom attendants on cruise ships no. And I am uncomfortable with hired help cleaning up my place & making my bed.
In India we had a houseman. We didn't want one but when we rented the bungalow he came with it. He lived on the porch and had very little to do as Jim and I cooked our own meals. Rakma just swept the place. We even carried much of our water from the well seeing how this little guy was straining under the weight. I'm sure we used much more water than the average Indian.
I am just not used to having help. As a Home Health Aide I did maid duty for others.

No, but I would LOVE to hire someone to come in weekly to do the dusting and scrub the tub real good (I despise these two tasks).
But I think of a 'maid' as someone who works full-time, and I'd never want someone in my house all the time.

When my mom married my stepdad we had a housekeeper for a short time cause there were so many of us in the house. But that didn't last long.

Nope no maid. There was a time after my back surgery we had a teenaged girl come in to do the floors. Even to have a housekeeper come in I would feel the need to make sure the house was clean before she got here!

This household does have a maid. Her name is Redbedroom. She is enjoyed by everyone but me.
