It just looks familiar to me but I used to watch a LOT of tv. I remember cartoon characters being used for PSA type things. Think it was back during the big "energy conservation" era when we were being told to pretty much go to the bathroom in the dark lol

Never saw if before. I only remember the Smokey the Bear PSA's. "Only YOU can prevent forest fires."

Yeah, Smokey was cool. Too bad about that forced retirement. Altho I think he sued and got his job back. Seems he's been back on TV after that.

There were some energy conservation things during the Reagan era, I think it was. Turning lights off when you leave a room, not leaving the porch light on, raising or lowering the thermostat depending on the season...things like that.

yeah in school they taught us to turn off the water while i was brushing my teeth... in the shower.. get wet... turn off water.. soap up... get wet again... while at the same time showing us a movie called The Day After 1983 about nuclear holocaust and how we were all going to die because of those evil Soviets. Im serious.. that movie gave me nightmares at 8 yrs old.. and the damn school TOLD us to watch it and write a report about it! its cheesy now.. but it was very real back then

We had drills in grade school where we ducked under our desks and covered our heads. Later there was a movie showing a white light blast and wind blowing the school windows out. (Since I lived in Missouri with tornados it wasn't much scarier than the imminent reality).
The scary part is the Soviets were never really going to use nuclear because of MAD (mutually assured destruction) but these fucked up moslem fanatics (like in Iran or Pakistan) have proven they will do it if given the chance.

Was that the one with Jane Alexander? Remember a movie where the US was nuked that at the time was disturbing as hell. Those commies were gonna git us, like in Red Dawn.

Oh I think I remember the one you're talking about now. JoBeth Williams. This was the one where the girl was getting ready for her wedding & they see the silo open in the mirror? So much fear especially in the '80s about being nuked by Russia or being invaded by communists. Crazy time.

yeah... i went to catholic school and they used to have us pray "for the conversion of russia" i kid u not was part of our morning prayers... my mom said that they did in school in the 40s/50s too
