Have you EVER heard of anybody eating this for breakfast?


I had never heard of this until last year in a forensic detective casebook, and these were cases going back to the 1950s and there was one report of this one diner where a bunch of homeless men came in to eat, and they all had oatmeal with salt on it, and they all got some kind of poisoning and had to be rushed to the hospital. It turns out that the salt was not salt, it was something kept in a similar can, I don't remember what it was, but it was put in the salt shakers for one table and everybody who got sick ate their oatmeal at that table and put what they thought was salt in it. But until I read that I had never heard of ANYBODY putting salt on oatmeal and I asked my mom because she actually grew up eating that crap and she never knew anybody that did either.

Nope, never have heard of that. I tend to add more spice and a lot of sugar to mine.

Used to know a guy who always added a pinch of salt to his coffee to remove the bitterness.

I've never heard of that, actually. I'm not surprised though. If some people like putting sugar on grits, salt on oatmeal pretty much seems in line with that.

Sugar on grits? Ewwww I never heard of that one either, that's nasty.

Yes, I've heard of putting salt on oatmeal. I don't do that as I prefer peanut butter and honey.

Never heard of salt on Oatmeal. I like Oatmeal I usually put a little brown sugar and cinnamon and raisins in it.

Yes I have heard of doing this. My dad used to eat oatmeal with salt. I neve liked it that way.

Nope, never heard of it. I eat the already flavored oatmeal, so I don't need to add anything to it.
