Would you be understanding if your child eloped?

Question Re: Your kid elopes...are you understanding?

    Post by wants2laugh Sat Jun 23, 2012 2:55 am

depends on the age--- is he 18, 22, or 29?

that sounds stupid.. but 18, he is just stupid and i would want an annulment! lol

22, he is still young and does not realize that his whole life is ahead of him.

29, hell, if he is a real man, then i want him to be happy... and would be glad i didnt get stuck footing the bill for a huge wedding... this way i can give him a downpayment for a house... or college fund for future babies or something.

would it hurt me that i was not there? maybe, but i also understand the urge to elope--- i told chris that i would be happy going thru the "drive thru wedding" in vegas! lol

Big elaborate weddings are a Medieval hangover. I would be the first to suggest elopement and I think most men would want to go that route.

I'm all for tiny ceremonies and elopements, but you still need a witness, right? I should hope my own kid would want me there for that if nothing else.

Understanding? That really depends on how convincing they are. Wink

Well for our wedding we had including he and I and the preacher 6 people at or in our wedding. Didn't cost much that's for sure because we didn't have much.

I'd like for them to want me to be there but at 18 it's entirely out of my hands.

Question Re: Your kid elopes...are you understanding?

Post by Chris Sun Jun 24, 2012 2:55 am

Depends on the age and the circumstance. If they are under twenty and do it in secrecy, then I'd probably be upset. If they are over the age of twenty-one, have been together for a significant period of time and have a solid relationship, and have alerted everyone of their plans to quietly elope, then it wouldn't bother me as much.

My wife and I eloped; but it was no secret that we were going to.

If they eloped with a loser, then I wouldn't be.
