Would like to see what others consider a barometer of bad service and how you compensate (or don't) in your tip accordingly.

I don't believe I've ever tipped below 15%, even when service is bad.

Bad service. I'll leave a tip even when the waiter or food wasn't good, but will greatly reduce it just to make a point. They can dismiss not getting a tip as the customer being cheap, but a quarter is an insult.

The better the service I get, the better the tip. If I get lousy service, they get a lousy tip.

I am a really shitty tipper to begin with so I give 10% on a regular basis if service isn't above average.

I remember tipping someone a penny because her service was HORRIBLE. She got the message and we when left the restaurant, she come out behind and threw the penny in our direction as we were walking to the care. She said some other shit too, but we were laughing our asses off at that point.

Honestly, I always tip 20% and give 25%-30% if the service is really good. these people are making $2 per hour and live on tips. They deal with ignorant pain in the ass people on a regular basis--- they have difficult jobs that I would not want, and IMO entitled to a bad day. It's possible that they do not even realize they are giving bad service due to other things going on at work/life. I know someone will say "They CHOSE that profession", but still-- they have to live and support their children and usually without health benefits. If my better tip then puts a smile on their face and lets them treat the next customer better then so be it.

Bad service. I understand that they are working low-paying jobs, but I do feel that tips should be given according to service quality. That said, we likely don't go below 10 unless it's something like a buffet and the "server" didn't really do anything.
