If you had a kid who was in any way atypical or one of those "walks to the beat of his own drum" types (in behavior, clothes, personality, etc) would you embrace it....or would you try and steer him or her down a more conventional path?

I would hope that any kid I had would follow the beat of a different drummer and not follow some herd mentality.

Let them go their own way for the most part.

My mother's always steered more towards conventional, what other people think about what they see is always a big thing for her even though she says it isn't.

Depends on what it is. Certain shit you're not going to do around me just because you're "eccentric."

I agree that it depends on what it is, and if I can see the value in it, or can at least recognize that it doesn't do any harm.
