Everybody want someone to blame in this mess but nobody wants to put blame where blame is due, that we should feel sorry for these poor mothers who can't help what's happened to their babies. That it's all the doctors' faults because they prescribe the drugs and see that as an easy answer instead of actual finding out what's wrong with their patients and are just trying to make money.
It may not be an answer but I say we put blame where the blame is due, YES, doctors are only too happy to write prescriptions and get people hooked on pills, any kind of pills, and the stronger and the more expensive they are, the better for the doctors. HOWEVER, patients are not sheep unless they want to be sheep, we know that doctors are NOT our friends and are just in the business for the money, so why would anybody blindly listen to doctors for any reason, especially when it comes to prescription pain pills?
You read through those comments and you'll find a lot of people that their doctors wouldn't help them find out WHY they were in so much pain and just wanted them to take more pills, sometimes as much as 5000mg of something in each sitting instead. Others who say for the pain they were in and were told to take these strong painkillers, that all they really needed was aspirin or ibuprofen instead. The doctors are partially at blame for being too lazy and money hungry to follow their oath, HOWEVER, just because the doctor gives you a prescription does NOT mean there's a gun to your head to take these pills or else. Everybody has a choice NOT to take them, to get second opinions, to seek alternative treatments, different medications, etc. At least the mother featured in the article took responsibility and admitted that it was her fault what happened to her child. For some reason a lot of people don't want to blame the poor mothers who just couldn't help but have babies who need to be on morphine or methadone now or they'll die.
