In the '90s not EVERYONE was walking around with a fone to their ear or totally lost in texting on the insidious devices. Ppl actually talked to the person they were with.

Agreed.
There were cells but they weren't half as fancy and pretentious as they are now and NOBODY was texting.
I don't think 2012 is anything like the 90's actually.

Hell yeah the 90's are over. I know I was a lot more optimistic then. People had homes and jobs to go to.

I don't know if there is as big a distinction yet, but there's definitely been changes. Few have been for the better. (And of those that were, many have started to go back the other way.)
