| My grandparents built a room at the back of the lot, my father lived there for a while and he had the first TV in our family. It wasn't worth watching because the picture would begin to roll after about 45 minutes. Every night I would hurry to get the dishes done so I could watch Space Patrol, a serialized 15 minute program. I also loved Time For Beany the original show not the cartoon of later years. In the original puppet show Cecil the seasick sea serpent wasn't supposed to be a fixture so he was cobbled together with an old sock, he was always losing parts that had to be sewed back on after he was such a hit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Patrol_%281950_TV_series%29http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_for_Beany | |

| So, are Suzi and I the only two who remember a world without TV?
Before we got our first Zenith console with one channel, we would listen to shows on the radio, mostly Westerns like the Lone Ranger, Wagon Train and Gunsmoke. Oh and The Shadow. During the day were the Soap Operas. It was quite entertaining with all the narrative dialogue and sound effects that helped you make your own images.

| I think so Shale, I actually remember the first TV show I ever saw, my father refused to allow me to go trick or treating that Halloween, he made me watch TV and I hated Kukla Fran and Ollie from that day on. I never watched it again. | |

| I didn't watch howdy Doody either , couldn't get interested, I think perhaps I was just a bit too old for it. Oddly enough I was a teenager when Dick Clark's American Bandstand hit TV , it didn't interest me either. I remember watching Queen For A day, and actually enjoying hearing the sob stories the women told. As an adult I would cringe over women telling such things to get on TV. Yikes!
As a kid when my father didn't live with us, I would run home from school to listen to the radio programs. The Shadow, was one favorite. At night we would gather in the living room and listen to all the programs on Radio, believe it or not we would sit and actually watch the radio, except when there was boxing on, then we watched Grandpa, he fought every match he listened to. He would sort of punch at the air, and when a boxer would take a punch Grandpa would go oof from the punch. Sometimes he was better than the match. There was a big radio / record player set (actual furniture) in the living room, then a small table set in the dining area. Now I guess all the radio stations just play music, but back then we heard Jack Benny, Red Skelton, the soap operas, and many dramas.

| It's funny how you can almost tell exactly how old people are and what decade they were a child of based on the popular television shows they watched at 10 years old. | |
