Whether we like it or not, people have ideas of how a person may be just by their physical appearance. How do people stereotype you? By your physical appearance, mannerisms, voice, height, style of dress, etcera...what has been the most common SURFACE generalization about you, and is there any truth to it? Positive or negative speaking.

Re: How have you been stereotyped?
"stereotype" has such a negative connotation to me. I am the suburban mom who is not fitting into the mold set by my son's peers' moms. I love my style of clothes that does not match the Liz Claiborne cookie cutter lame image set by ladies in my neck of the woods. I ride dirt bikes, swear more than I should, and wear tennis shoes and jeans to PTA meetings. I am not very popular! But while I don't fit the female demographic of where I live, I am rather happy in my niche with those I actually care about.

Re: How have you been stereotyped?
I get immediately stereotyped as pretentious. Why? I don't know; I think I'm pretty casual and friendly, but for some reason I have to prove this before the cynicism stops. That's total strangers. The people who *know* me, stereotype me as being much more goody-goody than I am.

Re: How have you been stereotyped?
I actually find the preconceived notions & behavior of some people fascinating. There have been many times that I've been in a business & had people I've interacted with many times make a sudden turn because of them seeing my tattoos for the first time. And I'm talking about people who had been friendly for AGES. One took a DVD I was buying up to the register rather than hand it to me, telling me it would be up there "when I was ready to check out." Some of them won't even speak to me now. No loss. Like I said just fascinating.
