Do you think teachers salaries should be at all depended upon by how well their students are performing on average?

That's what my mother's always said, and I can't say that I disagree. I get that there will ALWAYS be kids that fail no matter what, but that's no excuse for some of these idiots to just do nothing so everybody's as stupid as everyone else because none of them had a chance instead of some get it and others don't.

To a certain degree but they need to strike some kind of balance. I feel bad for teachers whose pay is linked to the low test scores of lazy students and who don't have the cooperation of those kid's parents just as I feel bad for students saddled with lazy teachers. Same thing with tenure reform. The administration has to look at more than test scores.

co-signs There are lazy apathetic fuckheads on both sides. Some teachers are just after a paycheck & benefits & are more interested in the teacher's lounge than the classroom & some kids are never going to even try. Some of the ones who are trying just may not be able to grasp it.

No, it would not be the teacher's fault if he/she has some jerks in their classes that have no interest in getting an education.

It IS the teachers' fault though when the kids don't get it and instead of actually teaching them anything, the teachers just get them passed onto the next grade, which is becoming more and more common. Nobody bothers holding kids back anymore because it takes too much time and money, they just pass them on to the next person and next person and next person, until they're out in the real world with no education and 12 years' of teachers who decided they could be somebody else's problem.

It should definitely affect their raises, bonuses and promotions.

Can this system remove all the politics that is entrenched in the public school system. Some neighborhoods are less academic than others and the teachers are often assigned to those schools if they are new to the system. Also, there is infighting within the school administration so get on the wrong side of the right person and you may find yourself at one of those entrenched schools where you are more concerned with not getting knifed or shot by surly students than if they are grasping what you are teaching.

In other words all things are not equal. I was lucky. My school and time was in the 'burbs when everyone accepted the work ethic. You made good grades - that was it. You answered to your parents. Not every school is like that. So, is there a sliding scale or something or do some teachers get to burn out for their efforts with little pay.

Oh, and will the school districts buy all the kids school supplies. I can't believe that teachers are actually supplying their students in some of these inner city schools.

The problem with that as they found out in Texas is that teachers only taught what the kids would be tested on. So the kids didn't learn as much as the "no child left behind" was supposed to accomplish. Then of course the Bush admin never funded the act after they made it national.

It should be a factor, but I don't think it should be the deciding one.
