Do you think that a father taking kids away from the mother is more cruel than the opposite?

It depends on the individual situation. There are some mothers who don't have the maternal instincts of a cat or dog, which often get our attention at how bravely they protect their young in danger. And, some fathers who are really involved in their children's well-being.

Too many variables. I don't think custody should automatically go to the mother. If neither parent is proved to be unfit, they should have joint custody.

Slightly. I mean it depends on the situation and how fit both parents are. But if the mother is nurturing and fighting tooth and nail to keep custody, but the father is wealthier and can afford better attorneys in a custody battle, then yes it is a little more cruel IMO.

The child should be with the parent who can best fulfill their needs. That's not determined by gender.

I think it's cruel to rob a child of either of his or her parents without a gravely significant reason. (Which I often do not feel is the case when it's done.)

Agreed!

If the mother is a bad or negligent parent, then I wouldn't say so. But I do think there is something sad about a mother losing access to kids. It isn't something that you commonly see.

Probably in most cases but there are some mother's that are not fit to be mother's so I would say depends on the person.
