If you watch Sex and the City, you will know something similar happened to Carrie. She had shoes stolen and thought the host should replace them.

So, I guess, the question should be, coat, shoes or anything else, would you expect the host to pay for the cost to replace?

I wouldn't. First off, I wouldn't have super expensive shoes or a coat at a party where a lot of people I don't know were attending. And if I did, it would only be where I knew the hostess well enough to ask her to please put them somewhere hidden.

If I was a sort of fashionista who wore expensive things everywhere I went, I would just suck up the loss.

Much as I'd like to hold the host accountable, I don't think it's realistic. I think when you go to a crowded get together you should take in as little as possible. Nothing valuable or expensive.

That would suck big time but I wouldn't expect the host to pay for it.

Much as it would suck, no. The host can't watch everyone every single minute. Maybe they should make their guest list a little more carefully but truth is you just never know about people. If it's something really valuable I wouldn't take it if I couldn't keep an eye on it myself.

Yeah, it's kinda hard to blame the host.....but if I was that concerned about it, I wouldn't wear anything too valuable to the party.

Basically agrees with what everyone's posted already.

But that episode Red is referring to... I think the hostess felt obligated to pay for her shoes because of the fact she made Carrie take them off and leave them by the door. So in her case, that was a little different.

Ur right Cheaps.. that is what happened.

Good luck in my size 11s... they would have to sell them to a transvestite to find someone with big enough feet!

pretty much goes the same with my coat... my breasts are so big, that I would know immediately who took the coat.. and go get it back LOL

No I would not expect the host to pay for the coat.

I could be totally wrong, plus I have only seen the edited down TBS version of the episode, but didn't it end with Carrie deciding to "register" for the same pair of shoes on a gift registry? I seem to remember Carrie throwing her own faux event just to get the woman, played by Tatum O'neil, to replace the shoes? Or am I mixing up episodes?

Your right. But before that, Tatum O'Neal (I can't remember her character's name) did offer to replace the shoes. But refused after Carrie had told her how much it would cost to replace, which was just under $500. Tatum offered Carrie only $200, so basically that's when she went on to do the gift registry.

Oh, yeah, I forgot that she did make the orignal offer prior to finding out the cost.
