Why do people let their pets wander around outside? I strained my breaks tonight trying to avoid hitting my neighbors cat, it was creeping around the end of their driveway. Keep your animals (especially cats) in doors, don't let them play in the yard unattended. A few of my neighbors are guilty of letting their cats roam around outside. Wish they'd cut it out.

Re: Cats
Well if you have an outdoor cat that's kind of hard to do, and ours has to be an outdoor cat unfortunately. But she's a good one, she's too smart to get in the street near traffic, if she hears a vehicle of any kind coming, she scatters off somewhere else long before it comes through.

Re: Cats
I don't mind a neighbor with an outside cat or two. Keeps the mice away. I would be frustrated though if they were always in my way in the street.

Re: Cats
at they keep the mice away. Some probably do, but my neighbor's cat goes after the little baby mice, and ALWAYS drops them in OUR yard. A few years ago it killed one, put it under my swing, we buried it, I went out, there was another one in the exact same spot.

Re: Cats
I have a question....
mice are tiny, but will a cat fight a rat? I always wondered that.

Re: Cats
They might, I don't know. The largest thing our kitty went after and killed was a squirrel and she just had to bring that up to the back porch and show everybody, my brother took it, buried it, she dug it up and put it in the garage.

If it's a good size, it won't. Rats are tough.

Re: Cats
I have an outdoor cat that is feral, she won't let me get more than 2 feet near her but she is very cautious about getting in the way of any vehicles or the street.

Question -
What happens if you keep an outdoor cat inside? What will it do, scratch up the place?

Re: Cats
My feral cat won't even venture near the door to come in, I have tried several times to get her to come in, especially in bad weather and she just backs away.

Re: Cats
Our cat is an outdoor one, she was declawed before we got her so she can't scratch up everything...not that she tries much to anyway. When she is inside and wants to go out, she just goes to the door and looks at it until someone lets out her.

He might be dumb enough to try, but will be put in his place in about 10 seconds.

Re: Cats
Probably depends on the cat. Ours has killed squirrels, mice, tried to kill a possum, a rabbit, she ate a lizard, played a snake to death, at least she thought she had but it just laid still until she was gone and then slithered the hell out of there, and she once killed a bat and stuck it on our back porch too. We have turkey vultures around here and some of them fly real low and I wonder what she would ever do if she caught one of those.

Re: Cats
My wife and I always lived in an apartment since we've been married and although we both had dogs and cats as pets when we lived with our parents it was just easier to have cats as pets in an apartment. They've all been raised as indoor cats with no problem. I think especially nowadays if you let any animal wander around outdoors you're just marking time until you have to tell your kid that "Fluffy went to live on a farm."
