If you discovered you had a long lost child, would you be their parent or their friend?

If you were introduced to a child that was somehow taken (or kept) from you at birth, and said child was now eight years old-plus, how would approach a relationship with them? Would you attempt to be their parent in an authoritative way, or would you go the friendship route with them?

Hypothetically speaking (because that ship sailed years agor for me) it would depend on a number of factors but at the very least I would be financially responsible for any child I fathered.

That ship sailed so long ago for me, that any such child would have to consider taking care of me.

Srsly, the only possibilities for that (and there are a couple) would be 42 to 45 years old.

Tough call, at that point they've already had it established who their 'mother' is even though it isn't their real mother.

Since he/she probably has parents already I would approach it very gently. I would want he/she in my life if I were the biological father.
