| Do you think it'd be a good idea for schools to put cameras in the classroom? | |

| I think putting them in the classrooms might be overkill. But I do think it's a good idea to have them in the common areas (hallways, lunchrooms, auditoriums, entry way, etc). | |

| Only if said classroom was known to be problematic, otherwise I could imagine the constant surveillance being a distraction for the teacher. | |

| Cameras in the classroom would come at a very high cost. Literally and figuratively. My son's school has them in common areas, but they produce such low quality videos, they may not be able to be used as evidence in all cases.
It would never work to place them in only select classes in a school because as soon as something bad happened in one of the non-monitored rooms, shit would hit the fan. Plus, select parents would cry discrimination when their kid is in one of the "bad" rooms.

| We have them in common areas of our residential facility and some staff have been terminated for their actions as seen on cam.
IDK, you know you are on camera so you have to be aware at all times what actions you are presenting, yet sometimes kids can provoke you to a momentary reaction that gets frozen out of the big picture.
So, cameras in the classroom may get rid of a lot of teachers who momentarily lapse when provoked, leaving you with professional actors who will only do what is appropriate for the camera, neglecting any real effort at teaching.

| Except for the financial cost to install and maintain them I don't see a problem but as Chris said, unless there has been a problem I don't know how many school boards are going to have them installed just for the hell of it. I think it can be for the teachers' benefit as much as the students'. It's not an invasion of privacy. Not in classrooms anyway. | |
