Once common in department, discount, and drug stores, I'm afraid they are a disappearing breed!

Re: Who remembers "lunch counters"?
I remember them well, for some reason I loved the Tuna sandwiches that seemed to be on every lunch counters menu.

I used to love the counter at Woolworth's. They had the best burgers and milkshakes.

Re: Who remembers "lunch counters"?
Yeah, one of those quaint niceties of the past. McCrory's also had them. It was part of the downtown shopping experience to have lunch in the "five & dime."
Damn, just remembered it was at the Woolworth's lunch counter in a smaller suburban store that I shared a cherry Coke with a girl. OMG! I musta lived in Mayberry.
The old Walgreen's downtown stores actually had a full restaurant on the mezzanine floor. I remember that in New Orleans and Miami.

They had the best baked beans I've ever had in my life but, alas, they are gone with the breaking wind.

Re: Who remembers "lunch counters"?
I remember them a lot when I would visit my family in South Carolina. Matter fact, I still think it's there at this one particular store that we would go to.

Mom and I went to a couple Woolworths in Chicago, but I don't recall a lunch counter.
