I upgrade when they crash and I have to get a new one. I am nursing this old Dell PC because I don't think I can get even another bootleg XP, which I prefer over the newer OS that I don't want or need.

Whenever I need to. My laptop is going on 5 years strong in February. If I need to upgrade it, I will.

Approximately every 5 years. Although I've had my current for 6.

Five years seems to be the consensus so far.

Yeah it seems like somewhere around the 5-6 year point no matter how much you update it, dust it or unplug it during thunderstorms it starts to get disagreeable. Not long after that it just says fuck you I'm done. There are exceptions but 5 or so has always been my experience.

At one point I was upgrading every 3-5 yrs., but that was always become SOMETHING would go wrong with it and I'd be forced to replace it. My latest computer I've had for almost 5 years and it runs as good as it always did, so I'm in no rush to upgrade from it. It lacks some of the latest innovations that newer PCs have I'm sure, but works great for what I need it for.
