In my view, the first Oscar consideration in most film categories. An extremely impressive forceful film. Paul Thomas Anderson offers his usual impressive production know-how. But above all else you will witness some of the best top line acting. The three leads should all receive Oscar nominations. And Joaquin Phoenix gives his career performance. It's hard to believe but he tops Philip Seymour Hoffman.
The above said, "The Master" is a trifle less telling and sound as "There Will Be Blood" (PTA's last film). But don't be misguided this is a must see film. Like with most adult films of PTA there will be many discussions and controversy.
You can see a connection with L. Ron Hubbard and Scientology, but you can also relate to many current day religious sects.
The movie was made in 70mm v the usual 35mm, which provides wider and a sharper image. I'm not sure why PTA didn't just use digital. There is also an IMAX print shot.
