I don't have caller ID, so I tell all my friends that as soon as I say hello, identify themselves or I hang up. There is usually a lag time between pickup and when the marketer can get to the hit fone. That is the time I just hang up.
Some of them catch me quickly in which case I politely tell them I am not interested.
I am on the no-call list but there are so many exceptions to that it has become almost worthless. Anyone who has done business with you in the past can call, charities can call, politicians can call.

I'm on the do not call list and I will report them if they piss me off. Lately and with greater frequecny I've been getting calls on my cell phone from several numbers in Washington state. I think they're "robo-calls" but no one or thing ever comes on the line or leaves a message. Just goes down as a missed call. I've reported some of those too but in the meantime, I blocked them on my Verizon account. It's free for up to 5 #'s and is good for 90 days. I think it's cut down some but what I'd really like to do is find out who is responsible and kick them in the balls )or the female equivalent).

i get pissed at them cause i work nights and they love calling in the morning waking me up. Sometimes I talk to them just cause I realize they have a job to do, and if they are American, I want them to keep that job (as low pay as it is). So many companies are outsourcing their call centers. I have friends from the Phillipines who say that there are schools there to train them to speak "American" even using different dialects/accents from across the country. They lose their accents to become more marketable. Scary stuff.

I do the same thing, I also don't answer if it comes up "Restricted" either.

For the most part. However, a few months ago...I did participate in a marketing call/survey about the upcoming presidential election. I used to be a telemarketer.....I know how it is.

No, I don't. When it's them on the other line, I excuse myself and hang up.
I used to be polite to these callers because I understand they're just doing their job. But these people do not know how to respect you. They take your time, invade your privacy and never take NO for an answer. Some of them would even resort to threats when you refuse their offer. I just don't understand why these people are able to violate the law and easily get away with it.

And I know a lot of people who hates telemarketers, too. You just have to go to consumer complaint websites such as Callercenter to see all the complaints that accumulated over the years.

*knosks on wood* This seems to be working. This last batch was automated so I didn't have anyone to tell to go to hell. I've never said that but I have told the obnoxious that they're being reported to the FCC and will be subject to a $1,500 fine. At that point I usually hear "click".

If it is an automated voice I hang up immediately. The rest I tell (always the same thing), "I do not buy or donate over the phone". Then I hang up.

Sometimes I'll just set the phone down, walk away and continue what I was doing, and let them talk to the air, but lately, there's been so many calls, I'm tempted to answer and say something like:
"Give me a minute and I'll be right with you--I'm almost close to orgasm. . . "
"Give me a minute and I'll be right with you--I'm almost close to orgasm. . . "
