A Chinese man had to seek medical help to remove a sex toy lodged in his intestines for five days, according to a state media report that said such cases were on the rise amid loosening attitudes towards sex.



Doctors at Shanghai's Zhongshan Hospital removed the 23cm dildo from the 30-year-old man's intestines using an endoscope, a hospital spokesman and a government-backed newspaper said.

"If we did not remove the dildo in time, the man could have gone into critical condition," said doctor Yao Liqing, quoted by the Shanghai Daily newspaper.

"Doctors were astonished to see such a big item taken out of the patient's body," he added.

He said the object had blocked the man's large intestine and caused tissue damage, and doctors were contemplating surgery if the procedure had failed.

Shops selling sex toys and contraceptives are common in Chinese cities, as greater sexual freedom and a consumer culture take hold in the communist-ruled country.

The Shanghai Daily said medical professionals were warning people to follow manufacturers' instructions for using sex toys and not utilise them in "unintended" ways.

"People must use sex toys properly and avoid ones that are too big as they can hurt people," Yao said.

"There have been three similar cases so far this year," he added, although the report did not make clear whether Yao was referring only to cases at his hospital.

"In the previous two or three years, we only had one such case," he said.

A hospital spokesman confirmed the case to AFP, saying doctors performed the procedure on Saturday, but declined to comment further.

Guess he should have gotten one with a base large enough to prevent it from being engulfed. This thread makes me feel dirty so I'm gonna leave now.

Well I would imagine he was making the effort to remove it himself without having to go to the hospital. Of course what he likely ended up doing was just make the situation worse. He was probably also hoping it would dislodge in a more...natural way lol

To say he got too carried away with it would be an understatement I guess. How do you even explain something like that to the doctor? I would be too through.

I've heard of people having lightbulbs removed. I can at least understand the dildo to a point. I'm guessing he was probably just a little inexperienced.

All I can say is, ouch! Poor guy. I would've gone in for treatment right away though and not have waited five days! It's not like you could pass that thing when you went to the bathroom.

Indeeeeeeed, I think a better question is, even though you as a doctor are a trained professional, how do you hear that and not laugh? I put that one right up there with the man that got his nipple bitten off by a beaver.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's what he thought. He probably had no idea the danger he was in.

But W2L, you didn't really lose them. You knew where they were I hope no one had to roll up their sleeve to get them out

We had one of those cases about 20-22 years ago at work; some guy shoved a dildo up too far, bodily forces took over and sucked it right up and he had to have it surgically removed. And since I work in a lab, all surgical specimens have to be sent to us for biopsy. . . . oh yes. . .

And the pathologist we had working with us at the time, was a crotchedy old fart, and he had to "gross" the sample (dildo) from this guy. The funniest part about the whole thing, was listening in out in the hallway, while Dr. Harper was describing the surgically removed sample, into the recorder for his pathology report. LOL He was an old WWII vet, who was very closed minded, didn't like anything that he considered "deviant", and would kill you for a dime, so him getting a dildo at work was such fitting justice! I'm still laughing, all these years later.
