| Okay, maybe people remember a few months ago there was a story in the news about a woman who about died from drinking too many of those 5 hour energy shots...it was like she drank enough in 1 week to make up 1 1/2 weeks worth of energy. Well that wasn't what nearly killed her, the excessive amounts of Vitamin B-12 in the shots caused her to suffer liver damage.
Okay, we all grew up hearing vitamins were good for you, so how could too much vitamin B-12 damage your liver? Well has anybody ever taken a look at the labels on these things? That was one thing I learned from watching Lisa Lopes' video interviews, READ THE LABELS on bottles, of course she was talking about 100% juice instead of water and sugar, but that's what I did, I was at a convenience store getting scratch off tickets and while the lady was scanning them, I picked up a bottle out of one of the display boxes on the counter.
Turn it around and the back of the bottle says Vitamin B-12: 8333%! No, that is not a typo, 8 thousand, 3 hundred and 33 percent of B-12 in a bottle not even 2 ounces! WHAT THE FUCK? WHY would you need that much of ANYTHING in something so small? I used to drink energy shots, not THOSE, but Wal-Mart used to have a brand before they really caught on and were cheap, they didn't guarantee an amount of time, just more energy and I drank them to stay up all night as a teen, I think they might've had THIRTY percent B-vitamins in it, but 8 thousand? What the hell? Would somebody care to explain that one?

| That's insane. Even when factoring in the small FDA recommended dose, when the percentage gets into the thousands, pretty crazy. | |

| Back in the 80s there was a craze to get a needle B12 shot from the doctor. Then people started taking the OTC b12, but the injections were much more concentrated. It does not surprise me at all what u are saying.
People are stupid... that is why i stay away from most of them.

| Some people will pop anything in their mouth without even thinking about it. They falsely assume that because it's being sold in a store it's been tested or is safe. These things aren't regulated by the FDA. Who knows what's in them? | |

| I don't drink stuff like that. If I'm draggy and fatigued, a nap will just have to suit me! | |

| B12? I never paid a whole lot of attention to these drinks but I thought they were loaded with caffeine to wire people up. I didn't know B12 was the pepper-upper. What will they come up with next? | |

I quit drinking them, and energy drinks in total, back in my teens. Come to think of it, I can't even remember WHY I stopped drinking them because I was never worried about overloading on anything, but I'm glad now that I did, they're getting too expensive for how much I used to drink them.

| Years ago I played around with Vitamin B-6, niacinamide to make me more alert. It was supposed to improve memory. Didn't do it too much because it gave me tingling skin.
I recall reading about B Complex vitamins, meaning they all go together and if you increase one you will create a deficiency in the others. (sort of like the balance between sodium & potassium in your body).
You would think it has to be safe or the FDA would remove it. But the FDA is a little fucked up, so you can't count on them to protect your health. Which is why I stay mostly with natural sources of vitamins and take the minimum supplement with my diet.

| I would never drink those. Or any "energy" drink for that matter. | |
