Jay and I were having lunch today and he was going on about something his worker dropped. I think it had to do with hoisting something up. Anyway, the story ends with Jay saying, "And then he started crying."

Oh, my gosh. I feel so bad for him. I only met him once but he is super shy and quiet and he must have felt so bad.

When I worked for the dentist, he was so mean. He made me cry a lot but I always hid it.

So have you ever seen someone cry at work?

All the time and I am not kidding. My last job was so stressful, it was not uncommon for people to break down and cry over their workload or just out of sheer frustration.

That's how I got in with my wife. She was so frustrated with this administrator we called Oscar Meyer that she started crying and I gave her a shoulder to lean on.

Where I work now our nurse got so stressed with a controlling, abusive parent that she started crying in our office while venting. That was disturbing because she was a young, woman who had been in the Army and was more prone to battling than crying.

I think there have been others I have consoled over the years but can't recall them.

I'm a teacher... I've seen lots of kids cry and I hugged them through it... does that count? And I almost started crying at work given my recent situation with my ex.

I almost cried from wanting to bitch my current manager out because she kept saying SMILE BIGGER! And said I looked boring when I physically can not smile any fucking bigger than I can. That almost got to me. Argh. Stupid bs!

Just ask her if the idea of good customer service isn't no make the customer comfortable with a genuine smile that makes them want to shop in the store again rather than make them flee because they think the salesperson is The Joker?

Multiple times. I may have been one of them once. Folks don't even go in the bathroom no more to hide it, they just bawl in the hallways lol. My job is pretty rough.

I know right... I DO feel like saying that!

That being said... me being genuine and helping customers with what they WANT and not pushing them to buy shit to appease my boss makes them actually buy more. And I will say this... I have noticed that not one other person in the store gets a personal thank you when customers leave. I help customers, am real with them, talk to the wee ones they have with them... I'm just friendly. And they are nice to me and thankful and will even call across the store to me to thank me for helping them... does that happen with bitch manager? NEVER!!! I bust my ass to be nice and that goes a long way than just being creepy and overbearing.

Yes. A former co-worker of mine became upset once when management stopped honoring her schedule stipulations and basically demanded that she work a certain day that she had long had off. When they wouldn't back down, she came out and tearfully hugged us all before leaving.
