OMG NY WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN??

We have been worried sick about you woman!

Well basically, the main thing is is that I didn't (still don't) have internet service. I had my internet and cable scheduled to be canceled the day of the storm. I was supposed to move into my new apartment on November 1. Because of the storm, the gas shortage and other things, I wasn't able to....at least not fully anyway. I had some of my things over at the new apartment and because my old apartment is near the airport (JFK) and Jamaica Bay, I figured that if there was going to be any potential flooding, I should just go to the new apartment. Turns out that my old place didn't lose power at all....but my new place, where I decided to go to, did. There was no power for three days. I was on quarter tank, so I couldn't drive back to my old spot because I would have to lug my essential items back over there and I didn't want to do that on the bus or the train because it would've been too much. I had already packed everything up. I got rid of my mattress, bed, couch and everything else so I didn't have anything to sleep on.

---I have a really good friend that lives out in Far Rockaway. If you look it up, Far Rock got hit really, really hard. I couldn't contact her and she has a daughter and boyfriend so I was concerned for them. So after I got power, I found a way to get into Far Rock because I wanted to get them to come with me. The bridge to go out there was closed, but I got a ride on a truck that was going out there to visit supplies. Get out there and it was just a complete mess. It's sad how people take advantage of others in their time of need. I get to my friend's apartment and she didn't even want to let me in at first cause there were people out there looting and there were even people who were knocking on other people's doors pretending they're FEMA, then when the residents would open their doors, they would rob them, some people even got raped. But anyway, I got in and I just stayed with them and gave them the stuff that I brought for them, which wasn't much...just what I could carry. I don't know what I was thinking thinking that I could just get in and out and bring them to my place, but that wasn't the case. Long story short, I wound up getting stuck out there with them for two days. They had no electricity, no heat, no running water and little food. We were all sitting up in the apartment hoping nobody would come knock on the door and try to rob us. Transportation in an out of Far Rockaway was basically non-existent.

---I had no phone. My screen cracked and I couldn't see shit, so my phone was basically useless. While I was out in Far Rock, I couldn't charge it or anything so it was dead for the time I was out there. I didn't get a phone until I was able get back to my apartment, basically dig up the old phones I packed (glad I didn't throw them away!) and take my SIM card out and put it into the old phone. Fortunately, it worked so I was able to receive calls and texts but because they weren't smartphones, that's basically all I could do. I couldn't go online here or anything like that.


In the midst of all that, I still had to work, even though I didn't go to work for 4 days, still had to go to school, still had to finish moving. Moving is A LOT of fucking work. I got rid of Time Warner and went shopping around for other internet services because Time Warner is just too fucking expensive. Finally found one, but they were backed up from trying to fix their existing customers service. So basically I was put on a back log order for about 3 weeks for them to install new service for me....which they won't do until December 1. The only reason why I'm online now is because I met one of my new neighbors and he gave me the code to let me use his wireless hotspot.

Ny, you are a sight for sore eyes. Welcome back! I'm sorry for all the trouble you've had to endure during this catastrophe, but am relieved that you are doing well. I was worried.

Thanks for letting us know NY what happened we were very concerned for you. You truly are a good friend and God will reward you for your kindness. It is a pity how people can be so heartless and prey on other people during times of weakness. I truly hope your friends are o.k. and all the other residents of Far Rockaway that are beaten down from the storm.

Damn, what a time! When this happened all I could think of was the movie BlacKout. So sad how people take advantage when things like this happen.
