Do you think it's even necessary for parents to sell their kids on the idea of Santa Claus?

Not necessary, but I really don't see the harm in it.

I survived it, altho it is an outdated myth when most ppl have central heating and no fireplace or chimney. I sometimes wonder how kids can still believe such silliness in this information age. They aren't as insular as my gen and older were.

Not necessary at all. Not essentially harmful. Although I suppose I'd prefer it all connected to St. Nick.

I don't see what it hurts. It makes the holiday season a little more magical for all involved, including parents, when the kids believe in him. The question is when, and how, should parents ween their kids away from the idea. Some parents are content to allow their kids to buy into Santa for as long as they can; I don't know if I agree with that.

Considering the fantasy only lasts (hopefully!) five or six years, I don't see the big deal.

Agree with the consensus. If my kid is over 10 and still believing in Santa Claus though, I'm gonna have to play Mr. Grinch.

Re: Should Kids Believe In Santa Claus?
Sure why not it gives them something to imagine, wait for and believe in during the holiday season.
