Gun free zones Empty
PostSubject: Gun free zones   Gun free zones EmptyFri Dec 21, 2012 3:14 pm

My last response in my homeschooling post gave me an idea. You always see buildings that advertise themselves as gun free zones, libraries, post offices, theaters, libraries, etc. It's debatable just how much good that does because if you're going to go in and rob the place or kill somebody you are NOT going to think 'oh gee, guns aren't allowed so I better leave mine at home and then go attack those people'. So if people put up those 'gun free zone' signs on their front lawns (AND actually meant it, incase anybody thinks to ask), do you think they'd be safer from home invaders than homes where it was anybody's guess if the owners had guns or not or would it make a difference?

face palm No. Of course not. A sign reading "This house is protected by Smith and Wesson" would be more effective. But one Smith and Wesson with one clip.

I don't think it makes any difference at all. Most places would frown upon a gun on the premises and everyone pretty much knows that. No one who carries a gun (especially for nefarious purposes) cares about a sign.

Gun free zones are about as much protection as an open door. At best, they are meaningless. At worst, they leave potential victims helpless. (As in the case of most of the past mass shootings)

I think it's a silly sign to display too, but they're probably not speaking to the nutcase gunmen....but rather those NRA types who carry a piece like they do their wallet.
