I just rewatched this movie, which is set in the 14th Century where Sean Connery, a Franciscan Monk is investigating a murder mystery in an abbey. It is a good tale that puts you in the Middle Ages and tho the movie was poorly received in the U.S. it was a hit in the rest of the world.

There is only one love scene in this R rated movie, between Adso (17-year-old Christian Slater), the monk's novitiate and an unnamed peasant girl (20-year-old Valentina Vargas) who sneaks into the abbey to trade sex for food with the monks. She meets Adso and since he's cute she gives it to him for free - his first time even seeing a naked girl. The love scene is without dialogue and was quite erotic.

There was one scene - when the girl exposes her breasts to Adso, he has this expression of awe on his face that was so real and touching.

I later found out why.
From Wikipedia:
"Christian Slater (17) was cast through a large-scale audition of teenage boys. For the wordless scene in which the Girl seduces Adso, Director Jean-Jacque Annaud allowed Valentina Vargas (20) to lead the scene without his direction. Annaud did not explain to Slater what she would be doing in order to elicit a more authentic performance from the actors."

Well, it worked!
