| What do you think about corporal discipline when it comes to pets and larger animals, like dogs, cats, etc., etc. Would you consider it abuse? | |

| That depends on how hard you're doing it. I think the same approach should be taken with animals that is with little kids, provided the animals can hear, it's more about the noise that gets their attention than hurting them, they hear the noise reinforced with "no!" and they learn. When our dog could hear, he caught on pretty fast, he'd hear a newspaper being rolled up and he'd lie down and be good. | |

| I can give my dog a "look" & he knows he fucked up. Hitting an animal is unnecessary & wrong. | |

| Awww no way should you ever physically abuse an animal. The tone of your voice is usually good enough for an animal to know they are doing wrong. | |

| when i first got my dalmatian, she was 100 pounds and very dominant... and snapped at my leg. She was trying to tell me that she was boss. Guess what... I punched her in the face... and after that i was boss. She was still very stubborn and I had to train her, and house break her. i never hit her again. I would have given her a kidney, and she would have taken a bullet for me. i wound up fostering dalmatians after she died... and never did i meet another totally stubborn dominant like her. the rest were easily controlled with water bottles and treats. | |

| If our cats repeatedly misbehave such as chewing on the Christmas tree, we get out the squirt bottle. | |

Our cat HATES getting wet, but we have another cat, an on/off stray, who doesn't know when to take the hint and leave, last summer I threw some water on her, and she shook it off like a sedate dog and still hung around.

| I don't like the thought of hitting animals. Maybe I would look more into it if I had a large dog who could really hurt someone. Like Wants said, it worked for her, and maybe for a larger dog, it is good if it is a one time thing to let them know who is dominate. | |

I heard that's what you do if a dog tries to bite you, something I always keep in mind when strange dogs find their way to me. So far I've been lucky, they've all been friendly buggers.

| Tell keep in mind that her incisors were a good inch and a half. You have to let them know who the alpha is. She could have done some serious damage to me. I loved that doggie so much tho. She has been dead for 9yrs this week, and i cry still Couldnt remember if i showed you her pic before. Can't find the pic that shows her scary teeth! LOL rainy by rainydal74, on Flickr | |
