| How well could you tolerate a job that basically paid you to show up, but didn't utilize any of your skills or require you to do much? Would that be more ideal for you or would it eventually drive you to wanna bolt? | |

| I have endured jobs that bored me that paid minimum wages. When I was young and just getting to New Orleans I worked as a security guard. Off and on I did that between other jobs. It's a living but one you hope to find better. (Actually, I was a security guard in a hospital - not boring. Made several hookups for after work)
Right now I am fighting with myself to not quit my job, which used to give me good reward but I am now just a worker with no input and the bosses are making idiot decisions. It is about the only job prospect I have that pays this much but it may be unhealthy to stay there.

| A well paying job? That didn't expect me to produce? I would amuse myself, have no doubt. | |

| sure. Ten years ago i had a job at the po where i sat at a computer and keyed zip codes all day, i was the fastest keyer they had. one day i got stuck in the room by myself, so i literally read a book and keyed at the same time. The room had video cameras at each corner, and a supervisor came running in "you cant key and read at the same time!!!" i laughed at her... cause I COULD key and read at the same time... just cause she couldnt was her problem lol | |

I've been at my job for 13 years. The first 7 were great. I was respected, jr management(I know middle management)had expertise that was appreciated, and was well paid.
Then this little Napoleon complex creep became CEO and all that has been dismantled. I am now an hourly employee whose tell-it-like-it-is way of dealing with supervisors confronted this jerk's insecurities. I have also had a 25% pay reduction (but still making more than any new job - if I could find one)
So, I After a couple weeks of major changes at my job; changes made by this unilateral, micromanaging CEO who hasn't a clue in the day-to-day operations of my department and who has told me that my opinions are not solicited nor appreciated, I had this verse from years ago pop into my thots.
Like the set-up in this poem, commemorating the failed British military campaign in the Crimean War of 1854, due to officers who had no clue, resulting in massive deaths in the Light Brigade, I am experiencing the helplessness of working under a despotic officer who does not sway from his decisions, even when shown the error by experienced workers & managers.
(With Apologies to Alfred, Lord Tennyson)
Charge of the Right Brigade
Not tho’ the worker knew Someone had blunder’d:
Theirs not to make reply, Theirs not to reason why, Theirs but to do or fly…

| That sounds like heaven to me. Give me a boring office job with a desk and a computer, and I bet I'd find a way to make the most of it. | |
