| I know alarm systems can be pricey, but in this day and age, the thought of having a dog protection seems a bit primitive and callow. What robbers breaks into a house without a gun, and who wouldn't shoot a dog coming at them if they had one? This is a bit "random," but does the thought of having a guard dog appeal to you? | |

| I would really like to have a dog just as a pet but as a guard dog, no appeal at all. | |

| I guess it depends on the robber. On one hand people always say robbers are less likely to pick houses where they know a dog lives. Unless they are specifically planning to come in and murder everybody, the general idea of breaking and entering is get in, get the stuff, and get out, no delays, no obstacles, and a barking dog, specifically a big barking dog with lots of sharp teeth can be viewed as a VERY big obstacle.
Actually I remember a story from a few years ago on the news, this guy breaks into a house, the father who has just broken his leg beats him with his crutch, the wife hits him with a baseball bat, and then they have their 120 pound Great Dane sit on him.

It's true. They hate an indoor barking dog more than anything. Dogs are usually protective by nature, anyway. Thing is, yippy dogs tend to get on my nerves. Funny story about the break-in.

| Agree with Supernova. I think the main purpose of a guard dog is to deter burglars from coming onto your property more than it is to have the dogs actually attack. That's why everyone with a dog for that purpose puts up one of these. | |

| If we had a house I would like a dog as a pet. That's about it. | |

Naw, I'd rather buy a gun.
