Your Conduct in Grade School

How did you behave in class when you were in grade school?

I was one of those who couldn't keep still and I had the attention span of a fly. Very frustrated 5th grade teacher literally tied me to my chair with a jump-rope. Ornery ~ usually sat in the corner or next to the teacher. Grades were a mixed bag. Artistic, but arithmetic/math challenged.

I wasn't a problem.

If I'm not mistaken, we used to get graded on conduct. I can't remember what my grade was, but I was never a discipline case. My teachers liked me.

We got graded on conduct but I think the teachers just gave everyone moderate grades.

Honestly, I was very well behaved in class. Hardly ever got in trouble, and when I did, it was probably for responding to another classmate trying to bother me. (Or one time, the teacher decided to give all the boys a time out during recess because 2 of them went into the girls' room and the teacher didn't know who. So she punished all of them until she figured it out.)

My school was really inconsistent on demerits. My only one came when I honestly forgot to copy down a math problem from the board for homework. Instead of giving me the chance to make it up with extra problems, I got a demerit. But I regularly got bullied and teased, no demerit for the bullies. And a few years before that, I got my finger LITERALLY cut open deliberately by another student (blood pooling on the desk, still have a scar to this day) and he didn't even have his mother told, much less a demerit.

So yeah, I was a good little grade schooler. Quiet and reserved and tried to do whatever was asked of me. Teachers never appreciated that enough. Their loss when I left.

I was pretty good in elementary. Probably started the rebellious slide in middle school & a hellion in HS.

I bet you woulda been in my club the "Association of Secret Students." We even put in our bylaws right after "An ASS is never a rat" that "A chick can be an ASS."

We were a group of nerd guys but Laura Gruendler was in our club. She hung out with us and shared dirty, unlady-like jokes with us. Hey, it was the early '60s not as jaded as it is today. Almost a "Dead Poets Society" - with no adult supervision.

Peaks and valleys. I wasn't a saint and would get into trouble sometimes, but I wasn't a renowned trouble maker or class clown either. With me it was usually a case of who I was hanging around and the atmosphere that was already in place that would influence my behavior. I recall one instance in the 4th or 5th grade where a class clown was acting out and the frustrated teacher put both our names on the board all because I loudly laughed at his shenanigans. That pissed me off and I threw a fit and wound getting a check added to my name. Your name on the board was the warning, a check next to it meant 15 minutes in the corner writing some kind of paragraph. Two checks was 30 minutes in the corner writing multiple paragraphs. Three checks was a trip to the office and a call to your parents. When I got the first check I started to cry and launched into a temper tantrum, which got me a second check by my name. The teacher looked at me like "you're not going to win this argument".

I was good for the most part. Rarely got in trouble.

This definitely sounds like me.

I was basically good but got in to mischief sometimes with other boys.
