When You First Learned the F-Word

Do you remember the very first time you heard it or saw the F-word? How old were you and the circumstances? I imagine most people may not remember because it's used so much anymore.

But I sure do. I was about 9 ~ late by today's standards but in "those days" it wasn't a very common use like it is now. Anyway, I was walking along a dry canal with a friend of mine, and on the big culvert wall was 'Fuck'. My friend let out a gasp of shock and asked me if I knew what it meant, and I didn't, so she explained it to me. I wasn't that well informed about the birds and the bees, either, but knew enough to understand what she was telling me. Then I went home and got into trouble with my mother for two reasons: Playing around in a canal area, dry or not, and blurting out the newest language lesson I'd had that day. I thought she was going to have a fit. It was kinda' funny, actually.

Both my parents have loose mouths when it comes to cursing, so I imagine I probably heard it for the first time as a baby. I can't recall the first time I became aware of it, but I do remember my daughter saying 'Fuck' when she was around three years old. She knew it was a word she wasn't supposed to say and thought it was cute for her to do it anyway.

Pretty sure it was when we watched Beetlejuice, the *kicks tree over* 'Nice fucking model!' *honk honk* scene, and we've been watching that for so many years I don't know how old I was when it first happened, but I think I was about 8 or 9 when I repeated it, my brother and I would imitate that scene so much, we thought it was so funny.

I probably heard it from the neighborhood kids because in my house if you even uttered a curse word your life was in danger.

Amazing how the word Fuck is used in different ways, you say to someone "Fuck You" in that sense it means something entirely different than if you say to someone "I want to Fuck You" or Fuck Off or Fuck Me, etc. etc.

One of the best subtitles I ever saw was in Apocolypto, which was done in the Mayan language. When the one guy got bit in the neck by a snake, his buddy said something to him in Mayan and the subtitles read "You're Fucked"

Makes you think, no matter how you interpret it, every language has the equivalent of that.

I don't know where I learned the particular word "fuck" prob. a movie or something, but honestly....I learned how to curse like a sailor from my old beautician's son. My father doesn't curse a lot and my mother didn't curse a lot when I was kid...although she did curse more than my dad. My mother would take me to the hairdresser, sometimes my friend Ariane came along, drop us off and this lady named Virginia, who owned the shop, would do our hair. When she was done, we would chill in the shop or in the back with her son, who worked there sometimes, while we waited for my mother. We were like 8 or 9, he was like 13 and I'll never forget that day......he was saying a whoooolllllleeee lot of stuff that afternoon...just pure, raw, uncut, unadulterated cursing, make Dice Clay and Rudy Ray Moore blush and those curses just would flow so smooth off his tongue, I was fascinated by it. Even hypnotized by it. I never heard anybody swear like that, not even my mother. And he was Dominican, so he had a sexy accent along with it. Long story short, after I while, I started to mimic him. And I remember one day a few months later, while my cousins was in town, I repeating some of the exact same things I heard him say and my mother overheard me. Talk about an ass whupping. To this day, I don't curse in front of her. At least I don't say the hard stuff.

honestly dont know... but even FART was a four letter "f" word in my house

i remember the first time i heard "blowjob". i was like 9, and there was a 13yr old and her friend watching our 4th grade class while the teacher stepped out of the room. funny that it was in catholic school that i overheard the girls talking about it. the girl sitting next to me went to the nun later and said she thought their conversation was inappropriate, and that she knew about oral sex because of her mom telling her. LOL

She snuck up on me! Then she asked me where I got it from and why I was cussing like that. Not wanting to rat the boy out, I told her I was listening to my father's Rudy Ray Moore tapes, Richard Pryor and some other stuff. Ass whupping. I wasn't supposed to be listening to those tapes.
