Is there one particular neighborhood or area of your city or town that is so run down or notoriously "bad" that you avoid or shudder at the thought of venturing into?

What is the worst (most dangerous, run down, depressed) area of your city?

There isn't one in my town, but I live in a resort town of about 15k people.
When I lived in Vancouver, the worst place to live was East Hastings (it got really bad by Boundary, between Vancouver proper and Burnaby); incidentally, East Hastings is the worst street in terms of crime, drugs and homelessness in Canada (I've also heard it's the worst street in North America, though I could be wrong on that).

Last I heard Brantford is the most dangerous area of Ontario and the 10th or 11th most dangerous city in Canada overall.

Oh gosh - I woudln't even go anywhere near there in broad daylight. I heard that it was one of the worst places in Canada, too, but I can't remember where I heard that.
I'd say the worst place where I live is Government Street, ironically. That's not a place I'd want to be anytime after... well - even approaching twilight. daytime isn't too bad, though, but I'm still careful.

3rd & 5th Ward in Houston is about as hood as you can get in the big cities of Texas. Oak Cliff in Dallas & "Stop 6" in Fort Worth are both notorious areas too.
Port Aurthur is probably the most crime ridden of all small cities in Texas.

Hmmm.....there are a few....
Let me just say that if I can at all avoid it, I'd opt to not wander around at night on the eastside of Detroit, or in Highland Park.

Honestly, I'm not afraid to walk pretty much anywhere in NYC. This is the safest city in this country. However, Wyandanch in L.I. is COMPLETELY and UTTERLY ghetto. I would never hang out there. Also, try to stay away from the Pink Houses vicinity in East New York. And Far Rockaway in Queens. Certain areas of Mt. Vernon and Yonkers ain't too peachy either.

Highland Park is a shit hole, indeed. It's only saving grace are the strip clubs, not that I ever go to any (anymore), on Woodward and Six Mile. But that doesn't take away from the desolation of the entire area/city. Another particularly ugly spot is Grandriver, past Ohio.
The eastside is hit or miss. Generally, I think it gets a bad rap. Yes, it's very raggedy in some sections, because it's older and bigger than the westside, but there are some very nice spots near downtown.

In Minnesota, I'd say North Minneapolis can be a bit rough.
