    Why is it when you buy a loaf of Italian bread there is about 3 or 4 inches sticking up out of the bag its in? One day when I was a boy, I went to the Italian Deli with my Mama and I asked her that question. She said "Anthony, you think too much" "Why do you think it is sticking out so that you can break a piece off and eat it before you get home" Can You Tell Me Why?? Scared0008

    I guess at the time it made sense to me, but does anyone else have a better answer?

    You should switch to french bread. It probably stinks, but may be better behaved.

    Because the bakeries are on the metric system and the bag manufacturers use imperial units of measurement.
