Went to see Shutter Island yesterday, it was one of the worst movies I have seen to date. I actually dozed off in the middle of the movie it was that boring. By the time you figure out what is going on, its nearly over!!! This is a definite wait for cable movie.

Re: Shutter Island
I haven't seen it but I can believe it. Most of Dicaprio's movies are crap. Other than a few decent early roles, he can't act and drags down just about every movie he's in.

Re: Shutter Island
He had two great performance I thought in What's Eating Gilbert Grape and Catch Me If You Can. I did not see his movie with De Niro which seems to be getting him a lot of credit. His problem though in my opinion is that he has been getting to many similar tough-guy roles in the last decade, which simply does not suit him, his roles in The Departed, Blood Diamond and A Body of Lies and to a lesser degree Gangs Of New York are pretty similar, playing this tough tormented man who is in this position where he has this inner conflict and is supposed to do a job ... . It simply does not suit him, he can't scare a kitten for starters to be believable and he lacks the charisma and aura of the actors who can pull off these roles. I just think he should pick his roles better overall.
He is a good actor, usually solid and rarely if ever ruins a movie, but he is by no means at the level of say Daniel Day-Lewis or Sean Penn ... .

Friday Box Office: Shutter Surge
Written by S.T. VanAirsdale | 20 Feb 2010, 1:30 PM | Comment
Shutter Island did what it was supposed to do Friday, riding the DiCaprio/Scorsese Express to $14.1 million and an easy number-one over some very soft competition. Last week’s blockbuster Valentine’s Day utterly folded — setting itself up for a second-weekend drop of more than 70 percent — while Percy Jackson fared only moderately better in third place. And behind them, Avatar made a decent-enough stride in its climb to $700 million. Read on for Friday’s full top 10.
SHUTTER ISLAND: $14,100,000 (new)
VALENTINE’S DAY: $5,680,000 ($75,942,000)
PERCY JACKSON & THE OLYMPIANS: THE LIGHTNING THIEF: $3,975,000 ($47,435,000)
AVATAR: $3,900,000 ($675,621,000)
THE WOLFMAN: $2,855,000 ($43,324,000)
DEAR JOHN: $2,350,000 ($61,021,000)
TOOTH FAIRY: $1,075,000 ($46,442,000)
CRAZY HEART: $765,000 ($19,325,000)
FROM PARIS WITH LOVE: $720,000 ($19,420,000)
EDGE OF DARKNESS: $615,000 ($38,719,000)

Re: Shutter Island
There's something about Leonardo DiCaprio and Michelle Williams in the same movie that makes me leery.
I don't know if I'd call him a bad actor, but I think he's very uneven. He was off the hook in his earlier roles, like WHAT'S EATING GILBERT GRAPE and THIS BOYS LIFE. But around TITANTIC and BEACH, he started trying too hard to be edgy and grown, and from there lost much of his initial charm. It's been hit or miss.

I saw it in theater when it came out. For those of us raised on TV Twilight Zone, there were no surprises.
