What are your thoughts on banning porn, or what some call "obscenity," from mainstream retailers where underage kids are allowed to frequent. In other words, should adult materials be legally restricted from places like Borders, neighborhood video stores (with porn sections), local party stores, 7-11, etc., etc.

They shouldn't be banned outright, but they need to have a separate section where kids can't access.

Legally prohibited....? Nope. So long as they aren't selling to underage, or allowing them to read the material....then the stores are doing nothing wrong. Nothing to warrant a ban.

Not at all. They have covers on them. Plus, the retailer can't sell it to anyone under age. They have to show I.D. Besides, I've never seen porn at Borders or any other book retailer. You still basically have to know where to go to get pornographic material. It's not like you can get it at the local Wal-Mart.

No, the kid can turn the computer and see mainstream porn right at home! I think it should be kept in a separate area where inquisitive little children can't see it.

Got to agree. Our video store here used to have the adult movies out in the main room, back at the back of the store, so you have to get past new releases, comedy, drama, action, horror and sci-fi to get to it...but then they put them in a back room where only adults could get access to the room, and I think that's the smarter move.

They can't really outlaw them but they should keep them out of reach of children. xD

I agree they should just keep them out of reach. Like a few have stated, they do not need to go to the store to see porn. The internet is easy access.

Do people even still bother with porn media (videos, dvds, magazines)? The Borders I frequent used to carry skin mags, but the last time I went they had stopped. Video stores are a dying breed. When I was a teenager, I used to sneak into adult bookstores with the video booths....but I imagine the Internet has probably killed that industry too. I know of at least five sites that shows porn videos for free (not that I ever go to any of them, mind you)....my point is that kids who want porn can easily get it online.
