Talk about a religious "cult," these are amongst the critical, superstitious, rigid, repressed and pushy people to walk the earth. My grandmother is so funny when it comes to them, she's ready to go take a fuse out of the box, so that it'll be pitch black inside. Not that it matters....the JWs know you inside and will knock for 5 minutes, while carrying on conversations with each other on your front porch. What's your opinion of JW's....and what do you do when they come knocking?

Re: Jehovah's Witnesses
We've been victims of them enough times we can spot their cars when they circle the block so we have time to run in and hide. I wish we could figure out how to get the same reaction out of them that Larry the Cable Guy's father does, 'well look at the time, we gotta get the hell out of here, we've been here for 2 and a half hours now'. To do that just once would be great.
I gotta agree on the cult, I know of NO religion where once you spot people to talk to, you have to go around the block, pick your materials and memorize what you're going to say to them.

Re: Jehovah's Witnesses
They're the most pushy passive-aggresive zealots on the planet. Any group that goes door to door trying to recruit new members into their faction is an unholy one and truly is a cult. I don't know who's worse, them, Mormons or the Amish.

What's wrong with the Amish? I'll grant you they're very old fashioned, and I think they're a bit nuts that they don't have any music, but you don't really hear about them harming people.

They're just as quick as Jehovah's Witnesses to be judgmental, discourage independent thought, to be suspicious of anyone outside their lifestyle and to shun family members who opt to go their own way.

Then there're the Mormons who I don't know if they do any of that but they're very well known for having 20 wives and about 50 kids.

Re: Jehovah's Witnesses
Jehovah's Witnesses are thee religious cliché, IMO. They embody just about every modern day religious stereotype there is. What really gets me is how smug they are to think that they can just witness to anyone at any time, will ignore 'no soliciting' signs and don't see this behavior to be in any way inappropriate.
I just don't care for religious people who take it upon themselves to start talking about God to any random person. It's rude. Once at the gym, I had an encounter with this old man (I don't know if he was a Jehovah's Witness, but he was something) who struck up a conversation with me, and then five seconds later asked me if I thought the Lord would approve of how lose fitted my clothes were. Five more seconds and I would have said something to him that the Lord surely wouldn't have approved of.

Re: Jehovah's Witnesses
The thing I don't get is why they want to recruit you, when they believe that only a certain number of people can get into heaven - 114000 or something like that. What happens if they convert me and I push them out of place? Aren't they worried about that?
ITA that they are a pushy cult that brainwashes their followers. They're sneaky and deceitful and will try and lure you in with a seemingly innocent... prop (like a magazine), and then before you know it they're shoving the watch tower magazine at you.

Got to agree, that number, 114,000 or is it 144,000? They believe only that many people will enter Heaven, why are they even working? That number would've been gotten a long time ago.

I just politely tell them I am a Christian and have no interest in what they are selling and ask them not to return.

Ya think so? Three of 'em came to my house the other day and they were actually polite. I told them I don't have time to talk to them and all the woman did was give me a Watchtower, told me to have a nice day and walked away.

Re: Jehovah's Witnesses
They probably are polite when interacting w/strangers to get them to join up, but one of my best friends comes from a family of Jehovah's Witnesses and she said that they are lightening fast to disfellowship members of their church. Just casually questioning any of one of the churches philosophies is grounds for it. They don't like anything that could be considered disobedient. And when they do it, they will encourage that person's own family and friends to have nothing more to do with them.

Re: Jehovah's Witnesses
In my experience they are typically quite polite, even if they aren't really willing to listen to your rebuttals to their "arguments."
