Heck they canonized Halloween as a holiday now it seems, they have that stuff out in July so why not Xmas in August. Costco puts out Xmas stuff in August.

I saw one commercial a few days ago where they alluded to Christmas, but didn't actually say it. Instead they made a reference to early shopping, while jingle bells played in the background.
I always say, in retail, that the holiday season officially begins with "Back to School." That goes on from late July to about mid/late September; then there's this subtle calm up until the week or so before Halloween; then we all know what comes after that.
