What do you perceive the underlying message of the Tea Parties battle-cry “Taking Back America” to be?

The underlying message? Government's out of control and the people need to work to return government to it's proper role. Anybody who thinks the tea party is some radical fringe group is honestly just buying into the untrue stereotypes of the leftist media.

That "Taking Back America" crap is nothing but wordplay. What it really means is that they want to go back to the yesteryear 1950s. An idyllic time for Americans who were not poor, black, gay, or suspected of entertaining unusual or unpopular opinions.

Too bad that isn't what it means. It's only word play to those who read headlines alone or leftist paraphrasing.

Although I find it ironic that the same people who hate "Taking Back America" were all on board in 2008 when "Change" was the catchphrase in style. Did anybody asking "taking back America to what?" ask "Changing America to what?" then? Nope. "Taking Back America" and "Hope and Change" are both political slogans!

It's just another in a long line of very funny double standards.

I've always thought the phrase "Taking Back America" is a bitter message from the Tea Party movement that things aren't going the way they would like them to go. They're mad, most of all, because they have a black man in the highest office in America taking charge. The Tea Party never thought they'd be under the power of a black man, and it's killing their ego.

I think it depends a lot on what Tea Partier is saying it. If they're a bigot and homophobe then they probably do mean a return to separate drinking fountains, etc. If they’re not I think they mean what FM said.

Just like "Hope and Change" was just code word for wanting to take American down a socialistic path that they feel they've been blocked from attaining due to "others." So they wanted to fundamentally change America so that they could steer it towards their own image and agenda.

Political slogans are fun until they are used against you eh?

And notice how they never really clarify "WHO?" But we can all pretty much guess who "WHO" probably is.

"Taking Back America" simply means too many of the non-elitist country club members and non-Christian parishioners are taking too many seats at the table, and they are none too pleased about it.

The whole weight of the concept is that the voters will not empower the current power in the House.
