They're too similar to high school cafeterias and soup kitchens IMO. People gumpily going up to the counter with their plates, 100 people touching the same tongs. Everyone came in from outside, nobody washed their hands. Eww.

^^^^You think regular restaurants are any cleaner?
I LOVE smorgasbords, well, THE good one anyway. After you've been to this one, you won't go back.

I like them a lot but I try to get there just as its being served before anyone has a chance to cough and sneeze and drool all over everything.

If you ever come to Lancaster PA, I got one in mind for you to try that is actually very reasonable priced.Tony Marino wrote:I like them a lot but I try to get there just as its being served before anyone has a chance to cough and sneeze and drool all over everything.
I do think the "germ" fears of buffets might be, at the very least, applicable to most restaurants in general.
Of course, if germs are the problem, this one buffet has a section where people serve you so you could always just stick there if germs are a problem. And you'd still get a pretty hearty meal. xD

Definitely depends on where and what kind of food it is. I've seen some seriously lackluster buffets.

Hell yeah. I clown at buffets. The all you can eat Chinese and Italian food places are the best.

If it's a good one, I'm in food ecstasy. One complaint I have about smörgåsbords, though, is that most of the one's I've been to have lame dessert offerings. The main course items (i.e. meat) are satisfactory, but the sweets tend to be on the generic side.

I think this buffet could remedy that. It's not the Old Country Buffet selection. I've seen vast arrays of different pastries and cakes. Even some unexpected things like carrot or red velvet cake and that's just 2 of many I recall off the top of my head.Chris wrote:If it's a good one, I'm in food ecstasy. I like buffets, but I don't love 'em. I only go maybe few times over the span of a few years, and usually it's for lunch. Don't really bother with dinner. In order for me to go, there has to be one within eye shot, I have to basically have nothing else to do at that moment and I have to be in the mood to sit down.

I do life breakfast buffets too but I find selection limited. Breakfast pastries and salty don't thrill me that much, and I need to limit my egg intake. So dinner has more available for me.

^^^^I think they don't add in chemicals to make you hungry like fast food places do. They want you full so they probably make their foods filling.

That's crazy ain't it? You can go to a buffet and be hungry as a horse and when you look at the food....you be like "I'ma eat all of that". Then you get one plate and can barely go back for seconds. Which is one of the reasons I don't visit too many buffets. I don't feel like I'm getting my moneys worth.......so I force myself to eat more. Then when I get home, the fullness goes away and I may get hungry again in a few hours and be mad that I didn't eat more at the buffet earlier, lol.

For me the second serving is always miserable because I really don't want anymore because I always overfill my plate on the first serving. But I try and force myself anymore. Then I leave feeling stuffed and about an hour after that I'm on trial in the bathroom.
