When you were growing up, did you usually do the things you were told or did you make rebellion an art form, or what?

I was thinking about this the other day and through my adolescence I'm sure I caused many headaches for my mother, because I had a mind of my own, I always talked back, but not as many as most kids would. I never smoked, I never drank, I never used drugs, I kept a tighter hold on my virginity than Charlton Heston's cold dead hands did on his guns, I was never arrested for anything, I was never out all hours of the night, most nights I never even went out, so I'd say I was lesser of a problem with my parents than most teenagers were.

    How about everyone else?

^^^^I'd say the same. No kid's going to be perfect but I think I was pretty good to my parents. Razz

Supernova, if your mom kept things in perspective, her headaches probably weren't that bad. Besides, she's probably put the same curse on you that your grandmother put on her. The, "I hope you have children who act just like you!" curse. Wink
A father passing by his son’s bedroom was astonished to see that his bed
was nicely made and everything was picked up. Then he saw an envelope,
propped up prominently on the pillow that was addressed to ‘Dad.’ With
the worst premonition he opened the envelope with trembling hands and
    read the letter.

    Dear Dad:

It is with great regret and sorrow that I’m writing you. I had to elope
with my new girlfriend because I wanted to avoid a scene with Mom and
    you.

I have been finding real passion with Stacy and she is so nice.

But I knew you would not approve of her because of all her piercing,
tattoos, tight motorcycle clothes and the fact that she is much older
than I am. But it’s not only the passion…Dad she’s pregnant. Stacy
said that we will be very happy.

She owns a trailer in the woods and has a stack of firewood for the
whole winter. We share a dream of having many more children.

Stacy has opened my eyes to the fact that marijuana doesn’t really hurt
anyone. We’ll be growing it for ourselves and trading it with the other
people that live nearby for cocaine and ecstasy.

In the meantime we will pray that science will find a cure for AIDS so
Stacy can get better. She deserves it.

Don’t worry Dad. I’m 15 and I know how to take care of myself.

Someday I’m sure that we will be back to visit so that you can get to
    know your grandchildren.

    Love, Your Son John

PS. Dad, none of the above is true. I’m over at Tommy’s house. I just
wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life than the report
card that’s in my center desk drawer.

I love you. Call me when it’s safe to come home.

And to answer the question, I was fine. This describes my little brother though

A traveling salesman rings the doorbell and 10-year-old Little Johnny answers, holding a beer and smoking a fat cigar. The salesman says, "Little boy, is your mother home?"

Little Johnny taps his ash on the carpet and says, "What the fuck do you think?"

I was pretty much an angel. I was sleeping all night a few weeks after I was born, I entertained myself as a two year old, I did what my parents said most of the time and never really gave them any problems. My younger sister on the other hand was a hellion from birth to present (she's 19 now). The price my mom had to pay for having such a sweet kid the first time.

Obedient and respectful to my parents but had a strong need for adventure/danger/thrills. From an early age on I realized I had certain qualities and quirks which set me apart from a lot of my peers. I also watched the friends of my parent/grandparents to see who was living the kind of life I wanted to live. Wild, crazy, adventurous and hard living people always appealed to me. Anybody who lived on the edge was a source of inspiration.

Making money was not as important as living life the way I wanted to. That said I also knew from very early on what I wanted to do and the kind of eduacation I would need. I never got in trouble with the law but that was because of luck and a small town seriff who would drag you off somewhere and scare the shit out of you for screwing up. He frequently told me he liked me because I was crazy and good entertainment but not to cross certain lines. I respected him. I never stole or hurt other people but I did raise hell in a number of ways including drinking. I developed a persona of class clown which helped me avoid certain issues and also deflected expectations.

At almost 65 I still love adventure and thrill seeking. It's the spice of life don't you know!

I was pretty good overall. I wasn't an angel, but definitely not terrible.

Quiet and withdrawn. Some people thought I was depressed, other people thought I was arrogant. Truthfully I was neither, I just wanted to be left alone because I enjoyed solitude. Still do.
