    When did it really first hit you that you were getting older?

    I've known it since I was in my early teens but it really hit me a couple weeks back when they started getting out the Halloween candy and I'm seeing the new gummy stuff they're selling, gummy brains, gummy hearts, gummy faces, etc., and I'm thinking 'ewwwwww', and I'm flashing back to when I was a kid...does anybody here remember that toy they had back in the 90s? It was like a boy's mad scientist easy bake oven, they poured stuff in trays from bottles, put it in the machine and made gummy bugs they could eat. My mother saw those ads about 14 years ago and saw them and went 'ewwwwwww' and at 7 or whatever, I told her 'they're not real, they're just candy' and she said 'I know, but still...' and that's what I thought seeing those bloody looking hearts and stuff.

    When my wrist that I sprained as a teenager (that eventually healed), years later out of nowhere started to ache in the same spot.

    Physical age just krept up on me but I'm young at heart so I still feel 25 even if I feel the way I did the day after playing a pick-up game of football.

    When I turned 30. There is that country song that says, "Remember when 30 seemed so old?" Yes, I do remember when 30 seemed so old, and now I have six years till forty. Makes me feel terrible.

    It seems I've got it on all of you. Born in '59, and I started feeling old when I realized I didn't know the name of a single current recording artist, nor any of the songs on the top ten. The epiphany came when I tried to listen to some of the music and found myself repeating my parents' mantra: "We're not getting old, the music really does suck!" And of course, their other mantra "What are these kids LISTENING too today?"

    I do like our Lady Gaga, though.

    I can't remember - it's been too long ago. eye roll

    Something I wrote a couple decades ago about my personal experience that might age me:

    YOU KNOW YOU'RE GETTING OLD IF:

    You collected soft drink bottles for their two-cent deposit, and you could buy something with two cents.

    There was an "ice box" in your kitchen.

    You feel you personally know Howdy Doody, Clarabelle, or Buffalo Bob.

    You watched black and white movies at the theater.

    You remember not having television and you listened to shows on the radio.

    You watched movies that weren't rated - and didn't need to be.

    The first stereo album (vinyl) you heard was a sound track of trains, planes, and thunderstorms.

    You rode the Illinois Central "City of New Orleans" when it was the best way to get from Chicago to New Orleans.

    You traveled cross-country by car (58 Oldsmobile) on a U.S. Highway.

    Traveling by airliner was uncommon, and they all had propellers.

    You used a white or colored restroom or drank from a white or colored drinking fountain.

    Your first "Pizza Pie" was a memorable experience.

    You bought cigarettes at 30 cents a pack (with no health warning) or a Coca Cola for 6 cents a bottle or a hair cut for 25 cents.

    You bought gasoline at less than 30 cents a gallon at a "service station" where they pumped the gas, washed your windshield, and checked your oil.

    You worked for a minimum wage of $1.65 an hour, and lived comfortably on it.

    You ate one of MacDonald's first million hamburgers.

    You looked at Playboy centerfolds that didn't show pubic hair.

    You got excited listening to the public address speaker in school as Alan Shepard went into space on a 15-minute flight in a Mercury capsule.

    Earlier this year when I had a conversation with a guy that I work with (he's only 19 years old) about popular music and he didn't know the name of the rapper who sang "California Love". I thought he was joking at first but he was dead serious and then I realized that he was only 5 years old when Tupac DIED! Then I felt old...
