When you were a child, how long did you bed wet, and how did your parents react to it? Real talk, the last time I did it, I was probably around eight years old. My mom was tolerant, but at times could get testy about it. My dad, on the other hand, was very no-nonsense about it. These days, I think parents know that childhood bed wetting is the result of not fully developed bladders, but in those days, it was seen as the child being lazy or unalert.

Re: Childhood bedwetting
I think I stopped bedwetting about 7 years old, I remember my Mama used to get a bit upset about it and my father would make fun of me for it but then it just stopped.

Re: Childhood bedwetting
I don't know when it started but I stopped around 7, with only a couple of accidents after that. I don't really recall how my parents handled it, though I do remember at least one time when my brother and I slept downstairs, they stuffed towels under me along with the rest of the covers.

Re: Childhood bedwetting
Probably around 9 or 10....I basically destroyed my first childhood mattress. It got so bad that my mother used to put large garbage bags under my sheets so that I wouldn't soil it. But eventually it started tapering off....I'd go months w/o peeing the bed, and finally I stopped. When my kids used to wet the bed (thankfully they stopped a lot sooner than I did), I didn't make a big deal out of it. It's just what little kids do....it's not deliberate. The only time I would get irritated is if I saw them drink a tall glass of something too close to their bedtime.

Re: Childhood bedwetting
I never peed in the bed as a kid. After I was potty trained and knew how to get to the bathroom, all that ceased. I did however, have had the "pee" dream several times. When I thought I was at the toilet and I wasn't. Luckily for me, there was a mechanism in my brain that told me to get the fuck up right before I actually did pee.

That reminds me of my twin cousins. They really did have underdeveloped bladders. At least that's what they said. They took medicine for it. They're like 9 yrs older than me and they peed in the bed right up until they were like 18, 19, 20. Since they shared a room and shared the same bed, they peed right in the bed together. Was always rank when I went into their room. Then wanted me to spend the night and sleep in the same bed with them. I looked at them like they were on crack. And when I told them that, they would come back with "oh, we took our medicine, we ain't gonna pee in the bed tonight!". Yeah right. I'll sleep on the couch, thank you.

I don't think I did after I was toilet trained, or if I did, I don't remember it at all. My Mom had those plastic sheets on our beds just in case, anyway - also worked well at keeping sweat from soaking through the sheets into the mattress.

Re: Childhood bedwetting
I was about 11.. my family and i stayed at a hotel on Miami Beach. Me and my sister shared a bed and it was the middle of the night when i suddenly woke up when i felt the sheet under me was wet. Both my brothers slept on the other bed and i made sure not to wake them - so i quietly went to the bathroom and grabbed a towel to cover the spot where i peed on. Went back to the bathroom to clean myself then to change when i realized that there was no clean underwear, so i had to put on a dirty one instead and went back to bed but stayed awake the rest of the night.

Re: Childhood bedwetting
Prolonged bed wetting must be a boy thing. I don't recall ever wetting my bed, but my two brothers both did well into elementary school. With my younger brother, I remember my dad not being understanding about it all and would bullied him about it.

Re: Childhood bedwetting
It really is a bladder issue. I wet the bed up until 5th grade, it was like the "family secret" that I wet the bed and everyone even my brother would constantly ask me if I used the bathroom or remind me to.

It is. Girls usually stop before boys do. My daughter stopped bed wetting a few years before my son did.
