So, are you an autograph seeker and see some meaning to it?
I have been thinking about this from time to time. Some people are a bit autograph obsessed. It is kind of amusing. I think that any time an autograph really means something is if you got it in an instance where you really feel awesome to have been in that moment to have met a celeb or sports figure, that getting a signature from them, cements the awesomeness of the moment.
Of course, I have a long list of actors and sports figures that I admire, but if I got their signature on a napkin after I was intrusive enough to walk up to their table at a restaurant, why would I want that? There wasn't any sort of shared moment or memorable exchange with it. So, I don't understand why people buy autographed stuff on Ebay. I get that some folks are into sports memorabilia and dead celeb collections, so to each their own. Some of it is worth money, so I guess it is good to collect some signed stuff.
One thing that really tickles me is that because my son races national events, and does pretty well, he actually gets asked for his autograph at times by fans of the sport who see him race. When he is asked, he still says, "Do you want me to do cursive, or print so you can read it?" I think that is so perfect because it is a testimate to my sentiment to how silly autographs are. They are just ink to paper, and mean very little most of the time. No matter how famous the person is.
