I'm seeing a lot of tip jars around these days at donut shops, sandwich shops and fast food joints. These places are not the same as hotels and full service restaurants. Am I wrong in thinking tip jars in these places are nothing but overkill? Are they really necessary?

What are they necessary for, in a donut shop its their job to get you the donuts, they are not doing anything special, same as a deli, its their job to get you what you want they don't need a tip for it.

Don't even acknowledge them to tell you the truth. I give tips to individuals, not to jars randomly set up asking for something extra.

The only time I do give to a tip jar is if I am at a concession stand at a sporting event because I know that a lot of the younger people working the event are probably doing so for free.
