    Do you not leave the house on Friday the 13th? Do you turn around and walk the other way if you see a black cat up ahead? Or do you believe you need to do certain everyday things a certain way so the team you root for wins? LOL, I fall more in the later category. Don’t get me wrong…I know there is absolutely no correlation between the color socks I wear or how I sit in my chair and what happens on a football or baseball field hundreds or thousands of miles away. But why take chances? Wink

    A little I think...every time I play baseball I at least once tap the bat three times on the ground, that's something I picked up as a kid and I wouldn't play any other way now.

    Can't say that I really am. I'm mainly paranoid about doing things that have been proven to have a disastrous effect. The black cat, broken mirror-seven years, saying "Candyman" five times, things don't really impress me.

    I really don't get the one about black cats. Note that's only in America that they're considered bad luck, in England it's white cats you're supposed to avoid, and other countries are leery of three-colored cats.

    Most of those standard superstitions go back to medieval times in our culture. I haven't studied the "reasons" behind them like 13 (12 disciples and Christ) but it is entrenched in our society.

    Here on Miami beach I live in an efficiency apartment in a small unit. I live in apartment 12. The one next to me is 12A then we have apt 14. Who they foolin'? Devil is gonna know that 12A is actually 13. Well, they do fool the post office who is always losing my mail and giving me 12A's mail.

    This is so common tho. I lived in another place where they just jumped from Apt. 12 to 14. Also there are some hi-rise bldgs without a 13th floor. This shit is incorporated into our psyche and culture.

    BTW, I have had about 5 black cats. I never tried to get them, they just came and expected me to take them in, like they were some kind of familiar or something.

    I think most superstitions are silly. Can't really think of a time when I did something that was considered "bad luck" and got burned for it.

    I don't like the phrase "God Dammit" and refuse to say it....just typing it bothered me. I think it's bad luck.

    Not at all superstitious. There is one thing I do more out of custom than because I believe in it....if I give a purse or wallet as a gift, I make sure there is money in it (even if it's just a penny). My extended family was big on following that "rule," and it feels weird to me to not do it.

    Ravens and crows are the most intellegent birds next to certain species of parrots. They have problem solving intellegence and can even be trained by people. Raven can even be taught how to speak (though not quite as well as parrots).
