Different versions of a song Empty Different versions of a song

NOT to be confused with 'who does a better version of this song?' I'm talking about one song that if you have it on different CDs it sounds like a different kind of song entirely.

Okay, so I get the Essential Cyndi Lauper CD, and I'm listening to She Bop, and the music is NOT the same as the version I downloaded off of Napster years ago, nor is it the same as was in the music video. The music itself is weaker and quieter and it's closer to her singing acapella than how we normally hear the song, but it's not listed as being a redone version or a remix or anything.

Anybody else ever wind up having this confusing problem?
