I have several VCR's in my house, but none of them play like they should. At least one of them eats cassettes, another will flat out reject the cassette -- ejecting it back out as soon as you put it in, and the other just has awful picture quality. All of it comes from them being too old and collecting internal dust from not getting used regularly enough. We're in the age of Blu Rays, hell even DVD players are becoming dated, but I still have a number of video cassettes around here that are kind of sacred and would like to be able to play.

Re: Does anyone still use a VCR?
I have several VCR's and rarely use them anymore. I also have 2 combo's decks and have not used the vcr part of them in a long time. I still have some VCR tapes but I threw out most of my collection and I cried!

I have one combo for the VHS movies I have that aren't & never will be on DVD. It will be a sad day when they break or get eaten.

Re: Does anyone still use a VCR?
Don't have a working VCR these days but have boxes full of old VHS cassettes that I can't do anything with. I would like to maybe convert some of them to DVD-R, but I need to go through and see what's on them but I can't.

Re: Does anyone still use a VCR?
I threw out the VCR when I got a DVD player which was in 2005. I might have a couple of VHS tapes around the house but, obviously, they're not doing anything productive.

Re: Does anyone still use a VCR?
I have two, but neither is in working condition. I only keep the one in my bedroom because it has an auxiliary connection that allows me to run my DVR cable box, because my bedroom TV doesn't have one.
I got a bunch of music video VHS cassettes that I made a kid that I wanna keep for sentimental reasons....they basically represent my childhood. I don't even know where VCR's are even sold today. I looked them up on Amazon a few months ago and was shocked that some of them were still selling for a hundred bucks. I just assumed they'd be cheap as hell today.

I've been wondering about that. I know some of them are from before the days of copy-protection. Had a guy at the electronics store say I couldn't copy VHS to DVD. But I need to look into that.

Re: Does anyone still use a VCR?
Ours still work but we only use them to occasionally (rarely) watch something that we haven’t replaced with a DVD. Don’t use them to record anything anymore. But they all show the correct time…not flashing 12:00AM.

Re: Does anyone still use a VCR?
My VCR is asi-asi. Sometimes it'll act right with some tapes, and other times it acts up. I keep telling myself that I'm gonna go through and toss those cassettes of movies I either dubbed from video rentals, or recorded from TV/cable. Those can be replaced, for the most part. It's the random, miscellaneous material (TV show episodes, specials, live performances) that I might wanna keep.
Here's another question for the rest of you (since there are already two VCR threads going, I don't want to be repetitive and start a new one), did you ever chronicle an entire series episodes on tape? I have every episode of The Cobsy Show and In Living Color on VHS that I recorded from the TV.

Re: Does anyone still use a VCR?
I have every episode of 'Martin' on VHS. Needless to say that I don't watch it anymore since I have the series on DVD too. I still have my VCR and VHS tapes in storage somewhere.....but yeah, I don't use no damn VCR anymore.Nhaiyel wrote:

Re: Does anyone still use a VCR?
I still have a bunch of VHS tapes sitting around here collecting dust. When I started buying DVD's, I made a list of the movies I had on tape that I said I was gonna buy in DVD format. I haven't bought any of them. I have a DVD burner on my PC, but I rarely use it.

Re: Does anyone still use a VCR?
I have a TV/VCR combo, but the VCR part is flakey. Sometimes it works and sometimes it spits the cassette back out with the tape all unraveled, I don't trust it with my more cherished cassettes.
