Re: Does gun control prevent crimes?
Define gun control. I've heard this term for many years but never really got exactly what it's supposed to be. Tighter background checks and all that sort?
The problem is that most criminals are NOT going to legally buy guns to commit crimes with, there's a black market, there's an underground market, they can get anything they want, that's why drugs are illegal and it's one of the top criminal activities and businesses, it's not allowed but still anybody can get them.
But some people clearly think 9 out of 10 criminals are going to go to a gun store, wait 3 weeks on a cooling off period, wait for a background check, and then register their guns before taking them to break into somebody's home or blow a shopkeeper away. Well anybody who really thinks that, I would love to meet these people because they could qualify for some of the world's DUMBEST criminals, to not get caught, you take as few legal procedures with red tape and records as possible.

Not in the least. The people who would register their guns, are not the people who would use them for crimes. And of course, the ones who wouldn't do! If someone wants to commit a crime with a gun or any type of weapon for that matter, they know where to find them and I guarantee that it would not be legal! I would suspect that, it is just another way to be controlled and for the gov't to possibly tax or charge us another fee!

Every bit as well as birth control prevents abortion.
Almost as much as DUIs, DWI,s prevent drunk drivers.
Far more than "laws" prevent "crime".
Since Cain and Abel, there has been crime. You can't legislate morality.
If you are "fined" for a crime against society, why does the "state, county or city" get the money?

Re: Does gun control prevent crimes?
While we shouldn't be passing out guns on pretzel stands at street corners, the radical and ridiculous idea that taking guns away from civilians prevents crime is just naive. Criminals don't care about the law so outlawing guns isn't going to reduce crime.

People need to stop and think, "How would gun control laws prevent or reduce crime?" People could easily purchase firearms from the black market.

That's the problem. These kinds of people clearly think the black market is just a myth, that anything that's illegal is off limits to EVERYBODY, law abiding citizen or not. And, in their bizarro world logic, they seem to think that law abiding citizen equals criminal.

Not in the least. The ones who abide by the gun control rules aren't the ones you have to worry about, anyway.

Exactly, it's like when stores put up those no guns allowed stickers, do they REALLY think somebody intent on robbing the place is going to say 'oh, it's illegal, so I better not'?

Re: Does gun control prevent crimes?
Exactly WHY is it people believe criminals (you know criminals, the people the police are always looking for because they BREAK LAWS) are going to follow a law that says they can't have weapons?
