Undeserved fall from fame
Who are some of the once-hot celebrities (actors, musicians, sports stars) whose careers you think should have continued to commercially thrive for at least a little while longer?

Hmmm. Tough one. Undeserved? I wish Orson Welles had got to make a few more films on par with Touch of Evil. Most of the victims of the McCarthy witch hunt. Most of the names I come up with did it to themselves.

Re: Undeserved fall from fame
Supernova, I considered Roscoe too. Good example although he too was on the verge of a comeback when he died in his sleep. James Dean's star was on the rise when he died in 1955 making him a film icon. Likewise, I think Jim Varney's career was actually getting stonger up until he died. As for Lisa Lopes, holy crap (slaps forehead as light bulb goes on), is that where you got your nom de plume?

Taylor Dayne should have had the career Mariah Carey/Celine Dion did.

Think about how famous she was in 2001, though. She's nowhere near that now.

Not everybody can stay on top forever. Janet can't continue to be on the same peak as Rhythm Nation for 20+ years. You made it seem like she was a hasbeen or something.

But the only reason she isn't on top was because of the Superbowl incident. So-- undeserved fall from fame.
Damita Jo could have been huge with All Nite, but she got blacklisted and it snowballed and then froze over.
She had a minor comeback with Feedback, but aside from that, her career has been on the downward slide. But she was once the highest paid recording artist. Her albums before the Superbowl were huge hits, and she always had a major single to ride off of. Ever since, it's been different. I know it, you know it, the whole world knows it. I'm rooting for Janet.
But let's not pretend like her popularity wasn't thwarted because of the Superbowl.

Re: Undeserved fall from fame
Everything can't be blamed on that Superbowl incident. Most of what Janet's put out over the past decade has been weak and not anywhere near up to par with her pre-Superbowl output. There's no doubt that she was hurt from the fallout of the SB but I think alot of people just stopped being interested in what she was doing because too much of it was forgettable. How many times can she coo about sex and how moist her mouth is?

Re: Undeserved fall from fame
DJ was weak, but I think 20 YO and Discipline are both better than All For You. So I have to disagree with you there.
Then again, those albums were definitely made as attempts to combat what happened at the Superbowl. 20 YO in particular, trying to sound so mainstream that it didn't work for the general public.
Who knows what she would have done had it not happened. I think her biggest mistake, aside from apologizing, was not going to Europe. I think she would have been embraced had she gone to Europe and marketed for them rather than try and save her reputation in America.

Thank you. Her music has been just been....."blah".......since All For You. I wouldn't say Janet has fallen from fame because music is NOT the only thing she does. What's keeping her, I guess you would say 'viable', is her acting. And if she insists on putting out stuff like Damita Jo or 20 Y.O.....then she needs to focus more on acting.

Okay, it's not a plummet from fame, but it's definitely a fall.

sorry oh rob, but i don't agree with that either.. so her album sales aint what they used to be.. as ny said above she's been doing some acting as well, 3 successful films, 2 of them hit number one, and she also received a best supporting actress role for one of them films. i dont think she's "fallen/plummeted" from fame.
